About Provide

Providevolunteering.org is the new on-line site for the community volunteering programme at Queen Mary Students’ Union, University of London.   Provide Student Volunteering offers you the opportunity to get involved with the local community, charities and organisations in Tower Hamlets and across London. Provide gives you a brilliant opportunity to absorb and explore what London has to offer, and to really get involved in your local area.

You can take part in volunteering through:

Placements
You can volunteer on a regular basis with a local charity or organisation doing anything from mentoring local school kids, to volunteering in the local hospitals, to becoming a helpline volunteer and managing a local sports team. All our volunteer placements are on the website, so get searching to find something to suit you!

Community Action Days - CADs
If you haven’t got the time to commit to volunteering on a regular placement, don’t worry, Provide have just the thing for you. Our Community Action Days (otherwise known as CADs) are one-day volunteering events, where you sign up for one event at a time and just turn up and volunteer for the day! These usually take place on the weekends. Some of the things we have planned for this year include cooking breakfast for the local homeless, painting a mural at a youth centre, putting on a Christmas party for the local women’s refuge and stewarding at the London Marathon 2009.

To get signed up to volunteer on a CAD, select the CAD category on the search page to view the projects coming up and then click ‘apply now’!

READ Book Project London East
READ book project logoThe READ Book Project London East is a student-led project at Queen Mary, under the charity READ International, and supported by Provide volunteering in the Students’ Union. There are projects in 16 other universities around the country, all aiming to raise £10,000 and collecting as many unused text books and equipment from local schools as they can. These are then boxed and shipped to Tanzania over the summer and eight of the volunteers from the London East team distribute the books in Tanzania in August 2009.

To get involved in this fantastic project, please register and click on the ‘READ ‘category in the Interests section on the search page to find out what you can help with on the project.

RAG
RAG (Raise and Give) is the fundraising arm of QMSU to raise money for selected local charities. The aim is to raise money for charity in any way possible. In the past, RAG have done this through weekly RAG Raids, regular student events, general japes, and the biggest and most hectic week of the year - RAG Week. RAG is always open to suggestions for new ways to raise money, and you can even put on your own event.
